Contemporary Art (Graffiti on Canvas) by Jean Michel Basquiat

I thought to feast the eye and nourish the soul with some paintings by Jean Michel Basquiat today. It’s Friday after all.

I know that Basquiat’s work is not everybody’s cup of tea, but I personally love his work because it is vibrant, articulate, offers social commentary and is overall interesting: there’s stuff to see and learn from every painting.

To me, his paintings read like a personal art journal, which displays his cultural history, his heros, his beliefs of social justice, his poetry and overall his personal identity.

  1. I do like some of basquaits work, although for me he didnt show his ability before he expressed which I find is somewhat missing in a lot of contemporary work. Artsits used to paint from casts and life to hone skills, that when tranfered to expressive styles made for better paintings.
